RESCUES

METHODOLOGY

I wish I could say there was a one-cure miracle for retraining animals, but there just isn't. Methods vary as widely as people have opinions. And what works for one dog may not have the same results for the next case.

Positive reinforcement has always worked well for us. We try to replace the bad associations with good ones, by interrupting the pattern. And it does not always work. For example, if a dog is animal-aggressive, there is very little you will be able to do about it. Oh, some people have experienced success, but my question to you would be "Do you want to chance injuring another animal and yourself?"

Read as much as you can, talk with the experts, and try new a new approach. It is the best advice I can share.

THE ARCHIVE

This section will eventually contain input from other rescue programs regarding retraining techniques that have worked for them. It will be in the form of an archive, and listed by subject. Check back occasionally, since it may take some time to get responses from everyone. And if you have anything you'd like to see added, tell us! We can be reached at Central Ohio Samoyed Rescue
