VOLUNTEERS?

Ok, so you are ready to start rescue. But can you handle it all by yourself? Probably not. We've been saving dogs at COSR since 1990, and none of us would ever try it without the support of our volunteers. Here's why:

  • Dogs must visit the Vet, often on on-scheduled trips. Can you take off work at any time?
  • How about exercising the animals? Can you handle walking all of them, each day?
  • And how about combing, brushing, bathing, and drying?
  • Oh, and let's not forget - Who picks up the animal that's 300 miles away, on a moment's notice?

WHERE TO LOOK

Often, finding help only takes a visit to your local club. There you will find others who care about the breed and are generally willing to help. It's always nice when you have the experience of their combined knowledge to support you.

But what if you don't have a local club? Be creative! When at the petstores buying supplies, don't forget to bring that rescue with you. Talk with people, and let them know about your program. Get them interested! When out for your walks, do the same thing. Never miss a chance to talk about the rescue cause.

REMEMBER THE APPLICATIONS

When screening homes for potential adoptions, don't forget to discuss helping with rescue. Adoption is only one part of the picture. It's very possible that your homes will be willing to lend a hand on occasion to groom, transport, or train other rescue cases. Some of the applications may even yield excellent foster homes!
