Please notice that financial consideration is requested from the adopters. This cost should be relatively small, enough to recover what you spent on the dog, if possible. However, often that cost could be out of reach. Use your own judgement, but suggested guidelines is typically in the $100 to $150 range.
- Remind the new owners that while they have full rights to the dog, they are not permitted to sell or transfer it without written consent from your rescue program.
- Make certain the new owners are aware that this dog is not to be used for guard, attack, or protection duties.
- Reinforce the heartworm medication requirement!
- Remind the new owners that the rescue dog must be tatooed or microchipped (if not already done) at the earliest time possible, and that proof is to be furnished to your rescue program.
- Remind the new owners that if they violate the terms of the contract, your rescue program reserves the right to retrieve the dog.
