LOST AND FOUND REPORT

The Lost and Found Report is used for exactly what it suggests; a document that describes the conditions detailing a found dog, the information about a missing dog, and the actions taken by the rescue group to reunite dogs and owners.

HOW TO USE THE REPORT

The Lost and Found Report is generally used to record information about a lost dog when you are notified by the owner. It is also used to document information regarding dogs that are found, either by callers or by your own volunteers. The report further records the actions you have taken to find the missing animal, or locate the owners.

  1. Found dogs should be isolated until checked by a veterinarian, in case of disease.
  2. Found dogs should also be screened and a canine evaluation form filled out, in case the owner is not located and it becomes the property of rescue.
  3. Always check for microchips and tatoos.
  4. Remember: If you do locate the owners, you *MUST* return the dog. It's the law, no matter how wrong it may seem.
  5. Shelters often will not disclose information over the telephone. Always encourage callers to check in person.
