FOSTER HOME APPLICATION
Unless you have an unusually large home, not every dog will be able to stay with you until it gets placed. Typically, it is necessary to find people willing to take dogs into their homes on a temporary basis. These "care centers" must be screened and approved ahead of time, since you won't have much notice when another rescue is necessary.
HOW TO USE THE APPLICATION
When a prospective foster home is interested in helping, provide them with a copy of this form for them to fill out and return. Essentially, it gives you basic information about them, and will help determine which cases they would be fit to accept (i.e., difficult dogs, gentle dogs, etc.)
- Pay particular attention to the past history. Does the applicant have knowledge of animals, and awareness regarding the handling of displaced dogs?
- Will the applicant be using crates during periods of absence, and if not, where will the dog be kept until it can be trusted on it's own?
- Does the applicant realize if they are trusted with a rescue, it will not be their property unless they choose to apply for ownership?
- Does the applicant have adequate arrangements for the care of a rescue?
- Why does the applicant want to foster instead of adopt?
Foster homes are like gold to a rescue program. But always make certain you screen them first, and complete the Volunteer Agreement as well. Never let anything be assumed when it comes to the care and responsibility of the rescue animal.
